Credit card loophole closed...
On July 22, 2011, the U.S. Mint said it was ending credit and debit card sales of $1 coins because of "individuals purchasing $1 coins with credit cards, accumulating frequent flier miles, and then returning coins to local banks ... While not illegal, this activity was a clear abuse and misuse of the program."
Now why didn't I think of that?

Roe, Griffith discuss debt stance
Roe, Griffith discuss debt stance: "The Mountain Empire's two Republican congressmen face tough decisions when it comes to the country's debt ceiling debate: Do they stand by their party's leaders and support a plan to cut federal spending by nearly $3 trillion over the next decade or reject it in hopes of getting Congress to tighten its belt a little more?"
Three debt ceiling plans
Members of the House and Senate are considering three competing plans that would raise the country’s debt ceiling if certain cuts are made to federal spending.
The Boehner plan:
- Cuts federal spending by $2.65 trillion over the next decade and raises the debt ceiling in two phases
- Sponsored by House Speaker John Boehner, it’s set to hit the House floor today
The Senate plan:
- Cuts federal spending by $2.7 trillion over the next 10 years and raises the debt ceiling until 2012
- Sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and endorsed by President Obama
Cut, Cap and Balance:
- Cuts federal spending by $5.8 trillion over the next 10 years and raises the debt ceiling once
- Supported by conservative House members, rejected by the Senate and Obama
